At the close of the century, there were 50-70 cases of (not deaths from) typhoid fever each year in Australia. One last graph shows data for tetanus. This one didn't make it into Vaccination — A Parent's Dilemma. Tetanus is not contagious and it is almost unheard of in children. The graph below is plotted from data kindly supplied by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.’ Please note that the graph covers all ages and, like the typhoid fever graph above, starts only in 1910 whereas the previous graphs commenced 40 years earlier. As we can see, there was no observable effect on the trend in deaths from the introductions of vaccines. There was simply a steady decline. Facing the Truth Before I continue, | would like to say a few words about reactions to these graphs. | presented similar graphs (minus tetanus) at my Human Rights Commission hearing. They were received with disinterest; in fact, dismissed as irrelevant and totally disregarded by the expert witnesses from the medical establishment and thus the Commissioner. When | subsequently published them in Vaccination — A Parent's Dilemma, they were received with great interest by readers and were quickly spread around the world. If you search the nternet today, you will find numerous sites where the original graphs have been reproduced along with many for other countries. Why the vast disparity between the reactions? I can group the public reaction into wo distinct types. The first, which as also been the most common, is shock or disbelief. These reactions are from those who find it difficult to believe what they are seeing. It is he same feeling I had when I first saw evidence of this—the experience of having a cherished belief pulled apart in front of your eyes.
