4• NEXUS www.nexusmagazine.com JUNE – JULY 2002Space-Based Weapons Agenda Dear Duncan: I heard a report last year on "Starstuff", on ABCRadio National (Australia), con-cerning laser weapons in space.Apparently, planned for 20 yearshence, NASA is to put 48 plat-forms into orbit, containing sever-al different types of lasers. It willcompletely cover the globe. Pretty silly that one country, America, gets to have control overthe whole globe. How does onedefend against space-basedweapons systems, lasers, EMpulses, etc.? Personally, I don't think tyranny is on the "spiritual agenda" forEarth, but let's wait and see. (It'salready got a nice foothold.) Yours sincerely,Linda A., Chelsea, Victoria, Australia [Dear Linda: Personally, I think we all help decide what our "spiri-tual agenda" is. I, for one, doNOT like the idea of space-basedweapons systems, as whoever con-trols those systems controls thewhole planet. I implore all read-ers to treat this subject with moreconcern. To that end, I printanother letter below, which canhelp focus efforts. Ed.] Keep Space for Peace! Dear Editor: The Global Network Against Weapons andNuclear Power in Space enters its10th year of organising in 2002. For the past two years, the Global Network has organised inOctober an international day ofprotest to stop the militarisation ofspace. In 2001, there were 115local actions held in 19 countries. In 2002, the day of protest will be expanded to an entire week ofevents to be called "Keep Spacefor Peace Week" and will be heldduring October 4–11. The US Space Command pre- dicts that because of "corporateglobalisation", the gap between"haves" and "have nots" willwiden worldwide in coming years. With space "control and domina- tion" in place, the SpaceCommand will become the mili-tary arm for the multinational cor-porations, enabling the US to sup-press those who protest US globaldominance. Control the people ofthe world by controlling space…With space domination in place, the military will be able to heareverything, see everything and tar- get everyone on Earth. Bruce K. Gagnon, Coordinator, Global Network Against Weaponsand Nuclear Power in Space, POBox 90083, Gainesville, Florida32607, USA, tel (352) 337 9274,globalnet@mindspring.com, web-site http://www.space4peace.org Raw Foods for Healthy Pets Hello, Duncan: A growing num- ber of veterinarians state thatprocessed pet food is the maincause of illness and prematuredeath in the modern dog and cat. In December 1995, the British Journal of Small Animal Practicepublished a paper contending thatprocessed pet food suppresses theimmune system and leads to liver, kidney, heart and other disease. Dr Kollath, of the Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm, headed astudy done on animals. Whenyoung animals were fed cookedand processed foods, they initiallyappeared to be healthy. However,as the animals reached adulthood, they began to age more quicklythan normal and also developedchronic degenerative diseasesymptoms. A control group ofanimals raised on raw foods agedless quickly and were free ofdegenerative disease. A growing number of veterinari- ans and animal nutritionists saythat many diseases and much suf-fering of our pets can be preventedor cured with nutrition. Holisticveterinarians teach that processedpet food (meaning cookedfood) is the main cause of illness and pre-mature death in the modern dogand cat. For a return to health, pets require a diet which strengthensthe immune system and mostclosely resembles that which theywould get in the wild (meaningrawfood). Grains are notpart of the natural diet of wild dogs andcats. Carnivores cannot maintain long-term production of the quan-tity of amylase enzyme necessaryto properly digest and utilise thecarbohydrates. You can find more information about the optimum diet for ani-mals at http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/animals.htm. Shirley Lipschutz-Robinson, Shirley@shirleys-wellness-cafe.comUFO Disclosure Down Under Dear Editor: Overseas govern- ments have not always been openabout what they know about theUFO phenomenon. Civilian UFOresearch organisations in a numberof countries have lobbied theirgovernments to release all theyknow about the subject. Here in Australia, some people wonder if the AustralianGovernment has "hidden" materialand, if so, why it cannot bereleased to the public. Are you one of these people? Do you have personal informationabout the UFO phenomenon thatis currently not public knowledge? Then why not get involved withthe Australian DisclosureProgram? We invite all Australian UFO groups and organisations, plus anyother interested person(s), to worktowards the establishment of anAustralian Disclosure Program topresent a united front on this issueto the Australian Government. Diane Harrison, Queensland, Australia Close to Truth of Finnish Saga Dear Editor: From the rich folk- lore of Finland, with its manyancient oral traditions, there is onespecific Saga that, until 1984, hasbeen secretly kept by an old noblefamily that formerly resided atStrömsö Manor, some 70 kilome-tres west of Helsinki. Based on the old tradition of memorising and storytelling, thethe Bock family Saga gives anincredibly extensive chronologicaloverview of the history of both theArctic and tropical cultures. According to the family saga as well as other sources, the castle inKajaani in northern Finland wasthe last resort of the old kingdomthat ruled Finland during pagantimes. In 1248, the last Finnishking laid down his sceptre, to besubsumed under the religious(Catholic) Kingdom of Sweden. However, before the abdication, the king's regalia were sealed in alead box and sunk into the well inKajaani courtyard, which was thenfilled and completely covered. In October 2000, a renowned geophysicist from the Universityof Oulu used two geo-radars to examine the entire area aroundKajaani Castle. He found no sig-nificant metal objects, exceptfor one placed in the deepest plateauof the underlying bedrock. Theobject was of "massive metal","about 160 cm long and 50 cmwide, approx. 4 metres under thesurface". Following this discovery, a group of Scandinavians, includinga Norwegian professor of archae-ology, sought permission to per-form a small and simple excava-tion. The National Board ofAntiquities (NBA) refused. Will the NBA finally allow—or even perform—a small excavationat the courtyard of Kajaani Castle,to let the truth of this matter bediscovered? More information about the fam- ily saga of Strömsö Manor may beobtained from the Archives ofFolk Culture at the SwedishSociety of Literature in Helsinki,or from our website athttp://www.BockSaga.com. Information about the ongoing conservation and eventual excava-tion at Kajaani Castle may beobtained from the archaeologicaldepartment within Finland'sNational Board of Antiquities atwebsite http://www.nba.fi. Stuart A. Rice[Dear Stuart: Thanks for your letter. Hopefully readers will beencouraged to lobby theGovernment of Finland and theNBA for the excavation to proceedwith independent monitoring andfor the results to be made public. We'd also like to alert readers toLes Whale's article on the BockSaga in this issue. Over time, a couple of your arti- cles on health issues have caughtmy eye, and now I'd like to bringup my own health problem. Itallegedly affects millions aroundthe world, but hardly any researchis done on the condition: bruxism, that is, teethgrinding. There are only very few people working and publishing on thisproblem, which has become a veryLetters to the Editor ...
