74 an eerie light. Travis Walton had always been interested in UFOs and without thinking, he ran out of the car and underneath the craft. Moments later, a beam of light shot out of the craft and hit Travis in the chest, knocking him unconscious. Thinking they were all about to be ab- ducted, the other men drove off in a panic. Meanwhile, Travis woke up to find that he was lying on a table in a small, round room. At first, he thought he was in a hospital room. Then, he saw the creatures: several five-foot-tall figures dressed in orange jumpsuits. Each had a large, hairless head and large dark eyes. Says Travis, “Their smooth skin was so pale that it looked chalky .. . their overall look was disturbingly like that of a human fetus.” Walton suddenly realized that he wasn’t inside any hospital: He was inside the UFO. He jumped up and grabbed a glass-like rod and raised it to protect himself. The E-T:s filed out of the room. Travis then crept outside into a curving hallway, and then into the next room, where he found a strange chair with unusual-looking knobs and switches on the armrest. He sat down in the chair and was shocked to see the walls suddenly become transparent. All around him he could see bright stars glittering in the deep blackness of space. He started to fiddle with the knobs, but decided he had better not. At that moment, a tall human-looking figure with blond hair, tan skin, and a tight-fitting jumpsuit appeared and grabbed Travis by the arm, pulling him into another room. Travis asked him all kinds of questions, but the man refused to answer. ‘Travis was taken into a room like a large aircraft hangar, where he saw several other UFO craft. Next, they took him into a small room, placed him on a table, and put a mask over his face. Walton instantly lost consciousness. He woke up lying alongside a highway several miles away. The UFO took off straight up and disappeared. Travis went to the nearest phone booth and called for home.
