102 The Mysterious Men in Black A very mysterious aspect of the UFO phenomenon is known as the Men in Black, or MIBs. There are apparently two types of MIBs. The first type are secret government agents, such as those portrayed in the popular movie Men in Black, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The second type of MIBs, however, are not government agents at all; they are apparently extraterrestrials. They often arrive in shiny black Cadillacs. They don’t walk normally, but kind of shuffle along. They dress in identical black suits and have very pale skin and weird, dark eyes. They talk in a strange accent that witnesses sometimes describe as robotic. Strangest of all, they may literally appear or disappear right before the witnesses’ eyes. Both types of Men in Black have appeared on the scene following dramatic UFO encounters that involve some type of physical evidence. The MIB usually confront the UFO witness, demand the evidence, and then threaten the witness not to talk about the UFO encounter. The first recorded case can be traced back to 1953 when UFO in- vestigator Albert K. Bender was visited by the MIB and threatened to stop his research. Bender was so scared that he retired from UFO in- vestigations. Since then there have been dozens of similar cases. Some UFO witnesses and researchers report weird phone problems or harass- ment by unmarked black helicopters. While many people have been threatened, nobody has apparently been hurt.
