This then became the episode of the severed hand. In effect, at the death of the daughter, the "doctors" amputated the right hand and removed the ocular globes sometime during the trip to Madrid. The other children of the Marquesa accused her of a monstours profanation, and took their mother to court, accusing her of practicing magic and witchcraft. However it was not her, but the Ummites who were trying to isolate what they thought was an extraterrestrial virus that might have escaped control. An Ummite virus perhaps, about which they did not know what effects it might have on Earth human beings. Later they could see that it was incurable by him who was experimenting at the large house in Albacete.
