a matter of precession that will modify the symbolic structure located in the high energies. Symbols are the software of the mind just like algorithms are the software of a computer. Once again, those who do not have the fastest time-going-by at their disposal will not understand this truth. It is therefore useless to try to convince those immersed in physical time. Establishing the exact symbolic definitions (and their effects) calls for an extremely long apprenticeship as it constantly requires going back and forth between the observation of human behavior (after having categorized it more or less) and the position of the planets to deduce their occurrences. The substance itself of the scientific act, i.e., the observation, thus requires a long period of time. Unlike numerous modern disciplines, astrology proves multimillenary. Its statistic principles (although quite empirical) are therefore probably the world’s most recognized basis. Quantum mechanics is not any better with its probabilistic nature. The difficulty of the exercise consists in fact in integrating the increasing share of free will as man evolves in consciousness, and thus his capac- ity to make increasingly numerous and diversified choices. Astrolo- gists may therefore benefit from integrating the causal parameter sets addressed further on. We should not forget that by changing the para- digm, we also modify the old schematic representations of our increas- ingly enlightened behavior, leaving behind causes that can no longer affect us. What hampers scientific formalism is that reality in its entirety depends on the individual rather than on unalterable laws outside the individual. What causes the separation is that reality is defined by con- sciousness! This is the battle led by the materialists who feel that man is subject to the laws in question. Again, the distinction we have made before between signified and signifier comes to the rescue. How do we define man? What is it inside man — since he and he alone considers the object studied — that compels him to obey the laws or that frees him from them? The matter is not just philosophical, unless it is redefined, but regards the realization of science with a consciousness. It is clear that the goal of the scientist, as mentioned above, is not to describe all of reality, because that would be impossible, but to come as close to it as possible. However, science clearly has double standards. It displays humility before the evidence question where the philosopher is con- cerned and still allows itself to use this same evidence as a means to 82 The Science of Extraterrestrials: UFOs Explained at Last * Eric Julien deny reality.
