more work. When Newton established his Principia in the eighteenth century, he caused a revolution, just like Copernicus did in his time. Copernicus proved that Earth was not the center of the universe (geocentrism) because it revolves around the sun. What seems a nameless banality to us resembled an earthquake back then. In the same way, Newton described celestial mechanics by proving the law of universal gravitation. The pub- lic gradually understood this principle and it became widely accepted a few years later. This process is called “common sense.” Subsequently, Einstein patiently and continuously redefined the knowledge acquired after Newton by establishing his theory of special relativity and general relativity. Once again, common sense recovered from the surprise. Even if our daily life does not seem fundamentally changed by these theories, we see tangible reflections in technologies, such as secure navigation of airplanes, satellite television and on-board atomic clocks, which could be qualified as “relativist’” ensuring the coordination of information exchanges between the Earth and the sky. lam still presenting just a few of the most publicized people to illustrate the subject. However, we should not forget Laplace, Lorentz, Mawell, Bohr, Heisenberg, De Broglie, Dirac, Pauli, Wheeler, Feynman and so many others (sorry for all the great minds, from fundamental physics or otherwise, that I did not mention); hundreds in the past and the present that contributed and still contribute to improving the description of our reality each day without ever succeeding com- pletely. They were nonetheless at the origins of what defines us as a civilization. Today we are on the brink of a “catastrophe” called a new paradigm. The stage is being prepared for a new act. As in the days of Einstein, this is taking place in deafening silence, in the most general indifference. That is why we are not making any progress. What led Einstein to pro- pose his theories is simply what inspires every theoretical scientist on Earth: present theories do not even begin to explain it all! We are in fact at an impasse because these seemingly successful theories contradict themselves. Therefore, the novelty is that this nascent paradigm (that of this book) no longer just belongs to physicists but to all of science! 66 The Science of Extraterrestrials: UFOs Explained at Last * Eric Julien scientific research the word research should lead to more modesty and
