CHAPTER However, do we have an accurate perception of the cosmos? In fact, the most important question is if the standard model of the Big Bang reflects reality, for it creates or destroys a large number of deductions. Big Bang equals initial conditions. In an article published™ in 2001, David Albert pointed out that “the initial conditions in question are presented in a remarkably simple and elegant form called statistical mechanics. We do not speak of a unique physical situation, but rather of probabilities, of the odds that a certain, specific configuration will appear. These probabilities play a key role in the scientific deduction eventually established of the temporal asymmetries on macroscopic scales.” This is a breakthrough in scien- tific explanations: asymmetry exists because we have been lucky! The universe as we know it exists, the past comes before the future because God played dice...before they even existed! Almost apologetically, he continued: “Every strategy applied to explain temporal asymmetries in terms of initial conditions...is therefore ‘slightly’ embarrassing: on the one hand, these temporal asymmetries are the very models and para- digms of physical laws. On the other, we are accustomed to thinking that the initial conditions in physics depend on the coincidental, the serendipitous.” Indeterminism creates determinism! In two sentences showing his excellent sense of irony, wit and humorous understatement, this lecturer justified my position with impressive clarity. We must seriously rethink the current models and paradigms. It is easier to replace the Big Bang model with a more solid model. Furthermore, I am defending the idea that consciousness is the 143 What do the stars tell us about time? Ir ETs EXIST, THEY MUST COME from the stars.
