forms more complex than our own, more conscious and more liber- ated. A massive dose of blinding is required to make us close our eyes to the potential riches of the universe. Nothing prevents us from imag- ining life forms whose evolutionary stage would be, at best, similar to ours. However, what would be the value of that, since our current tech- nological state does not allow us to meet person to person. Our mod- ern technology barely enables us to reach the terrestrial outskirts. It is important to remember that Earth hosts fourteen million differ- ent species in all evolutionary stages, including our own. Fourteen mil- lion on Earth alone! We have all heard of the equation of Drake, who formalizes the probabilities of existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life. With dozens of billions of stars, each galaxy is inevitably the cra- dle of abundant life, even if we merely consider the numerous molec- ular traces found in the gaseous galactic clouds. When we speak of ETs we can calculate that each habitable planet might also host several thousands or millions of species. What if there were several billions of habitable planets? Therefore, several millions of billions of species are competing for the qualification of ET. Amongst this astronomical num- ber of species it would be safe to assume that a large number consist of several millions individuals. Earth alone is inhabited by more than six billion people! This opens astonishing perspectives. Let us assume that 10” creatures live relatively close to us in the universe. Of whom do we speak when we speak of UFOs? We inevitably refer to ETs capable of reaching us geographically and therefore technologi- cally more advanced. Let us imagine that, in this not so distant part of the universe, only one individual out of one billion of one billion is more transformed (conscious) than we are. There would still be one thousand billion above us, which is approximately one hundred times more than there are human beings. We would still have to assume that all human beings are of the same evolutionary level, which I do not believe. The real question we should ask is what a more evolved life form looks like. Does this question regard their material technology, physical form or level of consciousness? It is quite possible that technology and con- sciousness are directly linked in such a way that technology itself is no longer just of a material nature. Let us assume this to be true from now on. As for the Fermi paradox, which asks: “If they exist, then why haven’t we seen them?’”, our answer is that they dematerialize at will. The exclusion of a third possibility suggests that an object is either material or immaterial. Not both at the same time or neither. Hence the importance of questioning this logicism. An extraterrestrial vessel is an object with the capacity to switch back and forth between the laws of 4 The Science of Extraterrestrials: UFOs Explained at Last * Eric Julien
