drawing me towards him in a big way but then there were other attributes to this man that drew attention. Apart from his mysteriousness, he appeared unusually intelligent and interesting to listen to. If this was a form of espionage to form a close relationship, it was working. Listening to him was never a chore. His articulation of stories became mesmerising and it was hard not to feel magnetised to what he had to say. There was something unusual about his appearance. Although his face was fitting enough for someone of his age, his eyes were something quite different, alien almost. They were large, sombre and seemingly fitting for an oval face but they emitted something vibrant from the pale blue irises like a hypnotic grip. Looking into them seemed to cast a spell yet you remained deeply inquisitive. Whatever that spell was, it was hard to describe. I had always put it down to the enthralling conversation that jelled our relationship but it seemed right from the beginning that peculiar undercurrents were present. Our shared interests sustained the conversations and whatever I brought up he would have a profound knowledge of. Even my obscure interests, the ones I could never account for seemed to be verified through his odd knowledge of things and that interested me no end. As my own unexplained knowledge already confirmed, they appeared as hooded beings in brown robes that possessed fantastical feats of power like walking through walls. Gideon went on to tell me how these beings sometimes appeared with “red eyes.” I wasn’t familiar with that particular aspect but it did strike me as odd how he managed to address so many of my concerns with such accuracy. How did he know these things and what were his own experiences? Inevitably we went on to talk about another interest of mine, which I was convinced had something to do with my own covert past--freemasons and secret societies. We would talk for hours about ancient Masonic covens, conspiracy theory surrounding the Old Testament, and legends of the ancient scrolls. This led on to the topic of covert masons existing today. As we delved further into the subject he eventually declared that he was a member 59
