those memories because, as primitive as the apes looked, they could talk. Just imagine having sudden memory about your dog being able to talk and it will throw everything you know about evolution out the window. This new memory was as enlightening as it was disturbing. Somewhere in my life I had seen apes that could walk and talk like people. Other times when I believe to have seen these creatures were times when they (and everyone else in the scene) were totally oblivious to my presence. During these times I existed just as the familiar “viewpoint” where I could view scenes at any angle I chose, like the multi-perceptive omnipotence of which I spoke. All sorts of scenes were played where I could see the man- monkeys happily interacting with humans. As I suspected before, the talking apes were a type of respected manservant; they were either discovered or developed to carry out tasks. I remember seeing what we would interpret as garden fetes going on where the humanised apes would happily liaise with human masters without any animosity between them. Some apes appeared to live wild in the woodland areas where they would cling together as clans or families watching in on the strange activity of humans and developed apes. I got the impression that even the wild apes were intelligent to a point, some capable of speech, some not. I just remember them existing in a sad and inert state where they couldn’t seem to decide what they actually were. They simply hung around in these clans, sluggishly brooding as though they were waiting to be developed. It was like a type of school. What I could never work out was whether these scenes were images of the future or something quite tasteless going on now in a secret genetic farm somewhere. There is no evidence to suggest that this research or “monkey schooling” is going on anywhere but the ideas have certainly crossed people’s minds over the years. “Planet of the Apes”, a television series I loved watching as a youngster was based on the next stage of evolvement for monkeys and how they lived among humanity, some films showed them actually being the masters. I cannot even say it was that which influenced my visions of the ape-people, because these beasts I saw were physically far closer to their ape origins than the refined look of the actors who played them. Physically, these creatures were apes with their full body fur and no need for clothing, it was only their minds which made them appear human. I never forget the documentaries seen occasionally that demonstrate the communicative skill of apes showing them being able to select things on computer screens and the theory expressed that it is only the shape of their mouths that prevent them from speaking. If any creature could be upgraded this way it would be apes. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a breakthrough of 121
