They told the newsmen that a "thick mist-like smoke, which smelled like sulphur, hung over the trees for several minutes after the departure of the strange aircraft." The reporter for Clarim informed his readers that the smell of sulphur had still permeated the ranch house when he had conducted his interview two days later. The October 24, 1963 issues of both the Rio de Janeiro Tribuna Da Imprensa and the Buenos Aires La Nation carried extensive accounts of the hour of terror endured by the Moreno household. Although the tale of hovering saucers, that directed alternating "tingling" and suffocating beams of light, seems to smack more of fantastic fiction than of reality, the Morenos' story was not without corroborating testimonies and other eyewitness accounts, that tend to make the whole Incident rather uncomfortable to contemplate. A Senor Francisco Tropuano told a correspondent for the France-Press wire service that he had been only a mile away from the Moreno ranch when, at about 10:20, he saw six discs traveling across the sky in close formation. Although he knew nothing of the terrible hour that the Morenos had suffered until he read of it in the papers, Senor Tropuana had discussed his independent sighting quite freely with his friends and neighbors. Two days before the Morenos' besiegement had been publicized, a truckdriver's encounter with the "tingling" rays of light had been reported in the Monte Maix, Argentina El Diario and the O Jornal of Rio Eugenio Douglas, a commercial truckdriver, told correspondents that, on the evening of October 18th, on the highway approaching Monte Maix, his entire truck had become enveloped by a brilliant white light. Senor Douglas had only a few moments to speculate about the source of the light when his entire body began to tingle like "the peculiar sensation one gets when bis foot goes to sleep." Douglas lost control of his truck and drove it into a ditch.
