Perhaps the strangest story of all was that told by a Waynesboro, Virginia man, who described a scene right out of a science-fiction story. While chopping some wood at the August Archery range at Brands Flat on Tuesday, January 19, 1965, he noticed two bright objects in the sky above him. One was smaller than the other and proceeded to settle to the ground not more than fifty feet from him. The man (who wished to remain unidentified) watched open-mouthed as an aperture appeared in what had seemed to be a completely smooth surface. Then three figures appeared and walked a few feet towards him. They appeared to be miniature humans with a reddish hue to their skins and eyes that seemed to drill holes in him. The entire procedure had occurred with very little sound, until the visitors made some unintelligible attempts at verbalization. Still holding the axe in his hand, the man stood transfixed, staring at the strange beings and at the craft they had come in. Finally the midget spacemen decided to leave, walked back into the ship, and resealed the entrance. After the incident, the man wrote a description of the account and mailed it to himself, vowing to open it only if further sightings occurred.
