332 Sharp words may reflect impatience with ambiguity. They also may reflect disappointment with the results of our searches so far. We should not let ourselves be disappointed so easily. Finding evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence may take generations. In the meantime, we should allow speculations—those of others as well as our own—to stretch our minds. There is no place for arrogant assertion when so little is known. Finding and interacting with extraterrestrial intelligence is one of Humankind’s grandest intellectual adventures.
