One of the most influential writers of the New Age is David Spangler. According to his own writings he receives his insights by channeling a number of extraterrestrial entities. In his 1978 book, Reflections on the Christ, Spangler stated that in order to enter the New Age, we must be initiated into Lucifer: "Lucifer comes to give to us the final gift of wholeness. If we accept it then he is free and we are free. That is the Luciferic initiation. First we must wonder why the contact method of choice is the same as those used by psychics, mediums, and occultists. Secondly, if they are really highly advanced, technologically superior physical beings from another star system, why are they fixated on a religious message? Doesn't it seem odd that there have been absolutely no specific instructions on how to cure disease, restore the environment, renew civilization, eliminate poverty, war, pestilence and social unrest?
