same way that this book exists. They are not permanent construction of matter" By "transmogrifications of energy" Keel means that they are concentrations of energy that have the ability to change shape. This is, of course, beyond the capability of a metallic, physical entity and suggests that UFOs are "paraphysical." Put another way, UFOs behave as both natural and supernatural phenomenon! In an article in the international UFO journal, Flying Saucer Review, Physicist Jacques Lematre suggests that UFOs may not travel by conventional means in our space-time domain: "We can consequently conclude that it is impossible to interpret the UFO phenomenon in terms of material spaceships as we conceive of the latter, ie. in terms of manufactured, self propelled machines retaining their material nature and their mechanical structure to travel from one solar sys- tem to another by traversing the distance separating these systems in the Einsteinian Continuum." While the vast majority (more than 90 percent) of UFO sightings can be explained by natural and man-made phenomena, the chronicles of Bluebook, Vallee, Hynek, and dozens of inter-national civilian UFO research teams are replete with sightings, such as those just examined, which defy any physical or "natural" explanation. The ability of UFOs to dematerialize, travel at speeds which cause ordinary matter to disintegrate, and their extraordinary capacity to perform right-angle turns at unimaginable speeds strongly suggests that UFOs and their humanoid "pilots" are not simply physical entities confined to our three dimensions of space-time. However, if they are not "permanent constructions of matter," if they are not "manufactured, self-propelled" "nuts-and-bolts" ships which travel by conventional means through our universe's "Einsteinian continuum," then what are they and how do they travel from one solar system to another? What frame-work can we employ to understand the UFO phenomenon? our universe and the behavior of UFOs have suggested to many researchers that UFOs and their humanoid counterparts emerge from a dimensional reality beyond our space- time domain. With such a framework, UFOs can be viewed as an interdimensional phenomenon that can materialize and interact with us within our space-time domain. Then, with equal facility these entities simply vanish into unseen and unrecognized dimensions beyond our three-dimensional space-time domain. After rejecting the extraterrestrial hypothesis as too simplistic, Jacques Vallee offers an alternative explanation: "If they are not space craft, what else could UFOs be? What research framework can account for the physical effects, for the impact on society, for the appearance of the occupants, and for the seemingly absurd, dreamlike elements of their behavior? How can we explain that the phenomenon makes itself obvious to rural populations but avoids overt contact, choosing instead 49 THE INTERDIMENSIONAL THEORY As we approach the end of the 20th century, radical new theories about the nature of
