incredulous about those who said they had been taken aboard one but I have had to change my mind." Like Hynek, many scientists, once skeptical regarding the existence of UFOs, have changed their minds when they thoroughly examined the evidence. In 1994 a report was published by Richard F. Haines, a former NASA research scientist specializing in optics and vision, which documented UFO sightings involving two or more objects seen at the same time.** The report, called "Project Delta," relied on well-documented UFO sightings which included multiple objects seen by multiple witnesses. Many of the contemporary sightings were documented by radar contacts and/or photographs. The study included 473 cases spanning the period from 1504 B.C. to A.D. 1993. This study, done with impressive care and professional skill, clearly indicated that the features of these multiple aerial phenomena have not changed significantly over the years. The report concluded that UFOs are aerospace vehicles of non-terrestrial origin being operated under highly intelligent flight control. It is important to point out that the UFO phenomenon is a multifaceted issue. Of the 12,000-plus UFO reports examined by Project Bluebook since the modern era began in 1947, the vast majority were identified as natural or man-made phenomena. In addition, many reports have certainly represented top-secret aircraft, both foreign and domestic. In our examination of the UFO phenomenon, we wish to focus on the truly unidentified accounts for which there is no apparent Earthly explanation. The evidence examined to this point seems to confirm that UFOs are physical objects. However, additional data suggests that under certain circumstances this may not be the case. For example, UFOs have been tracked on radar traveling at over 25,000 miles per hour within our atmosphere. Yet, unlike physical objects, they do not cause sonic booms and they do not burn up. They have been known to make right-angle turns at over 15,000 miles per hour, something no physical object could endure. And despite visual confirmation, UFOs often fail to show up on photographic film or radar devices. The bizarre physics of UFOs is further illustrated by the fact that many apparently reliable witnesses, including civilian and military pilots, have seen UFOs materialize and dematerialize instantaneously. This phenomenon was witnessed in the Mexico, Israel, and Arizona sightings in recent months. Furthermore, some have even reported metallic craft that change shape ("morph"), break into multiple objects, or merge into one UFO from multiple—all of this while in flight and on the ground!®® Anomalies such as these suggest a paradox. While sitting on the ground UFOs betray the evidence of physical objects. Yet, when they are in flight they behave as though they are mass-less apparitions—in effect, a supernatural phenomenon! 42 who had said that they had seen UFOs on several occasions and totally be Aa a a PROJECT DELTA THE SUPERPHYSICS OF UFOS This paradox was noted by engineer James Campbell: "Evidence left at landing sights leaves little room that UFOs are heavy,
