Kenan's son was Mahalalel, which means "blessed" or "praise," and El, the name for God. Thus, Mahalalel means "the blessed God." Often Hebrew names include El, the name of God, e.g. Daniel, "God is my Judge," etc. Mahalalel's son was named Jared, from the verb yaradh, meaning "descent," or "shall come down." Some scholars believe that the intrusions of the "aliens" of Jared's son was named Enoch, which means "teaching," or "commencement." Enoch was the father of Methuselah, whom we have already mentioned. (This name is also linked to the Lamech in Cain's line who inadvertently killed his son TubalCain in a hunting toouy incident.) Lamech, of course, is the father of Noah, rt , which is derived from nacham, "to bring relief," "rest," or "comfort," as Lamech himself explains in Genesis 5:29.
