For this discussion, we will set aside the attempts of critics to deny this catastrophe which so manifestly altered Earth so long ago. While not free of its own controversies, there are a number of excellent scientific treatises on this subject. However, one of the issues which does impact our inquiry is, why did God send such a drastic judgment upon planet Earth? There was widespread wickedness, of course. But if that were the only criterion, perhaps we all had better get life jackets! According to the Biblical record, there was much more going on than most people have any idea! interest. Those conditions are important to us for very practical reasons as well. Jesus left us an ominous warning: "As the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Yet, what were the "days of Noah" like? What made them unique? We must try to understand what was really going on in order to appropriate His warning. Most people, including serious students of the Bible, are unaware of the peculiar circumstances that led to the flood of Noah.
