duration, maneuvers and the associated blue and amber lights seem
to rule this explanation out. The only bright astronomical object
in that sector of the sky was S Sirius but it was only a few degrees
above the horizon and would not appear almost the angular size of
a full moon. It would not appear to alternately change shape nor
would it blink out upon the approach of a conventional aircraft.
The sighting does resemble those of glowing "cloud cigar"
the larger
object. I phoned th witness to re-question her on this point but
her impression was that the object was round - "like a big button"
and that it was revolving so that its face and edge were alternately
seen. She felt that the lights were ' "hanging from the object" or
that they were connected to it rather than being seperate objects.
She described the object as glowing the brightest and whitest white
she had ever seen - much brighter than a full moon.
The witness felt that the aircraft (which she also heard) that
approached the object came close to it before it seemingly reacted

off a Russian satellite, but it was five hours after sunset (here) and
the height above the horizon was such that, if it were a satellite, it
would have to have been about 2, oo0 miles west of Houston at a height
of over 500 miles, which doesn' likely,
I was out on Westheimer near Fondren Road when I saw what I

that flashed in the sky and then disaopeared. But it re-appeared on
the same course and renained in sight for what I estimated to be 3 to
5 seconds. Then took a sudden nose-div nd disappeared. It covered
a total of about 30 dagrees of azimuth in those 3-5 seconds, which is
an unusually high speed. (A satellite directly over-head at a height

copy of the notes I made that night:
"UFo" sighting - Sat. nite, lo/26/68 - 1l:22 PM C.D.S.T.
West of Houston - seen f from vicinity of Westheimer & Fondren.
Appeared as a dim spot of light travelling at a high
speed frum South to North about lo deg. to 15 deg. above hori-
zon. Slight slant towards earth (say, 5 dez.). First appeared
10 deg. to 2o deg. N. of W. Disappeared briefly; re-appeared
on seme path. Covered about 30 deg. of acimuth in 3-5 secs.
Suddenly dived towards earth and was lost to view behind car-
port. Definitely not an airplane or d orbitting space object.
Could have been a meteorite or falling space debris, but not

than a star seen by the naked eye, but not as bright as a
bright star or planet. Dimmer--more like a flash-light re-
flecting off a fog bank. No "tail", out so fast it was al-
most just a streak. As fast as a "shooting star", but a long, low
horizontal path with a sudden "nose-dive" on the end. In
general vicinity of Andrau Airpark. Iwo planes in air at
time. Fell towards Katy Mighway and Aidicks.

right height above the horizon and ipproximatiah speed,bub-a-Bide
satellite at that height and distance would have been well within the
earth's shadow by that time of night!
The s sharp change in the trajectory seems to rule out a meteor
or falling space debris. No plane crashes, meteors, or falling space
debris were reported in the newspapers. There was no noi
or sound cornected with the "aighting".
Prak The only y thing left is a spot of light reflecting off
a cloud or fog-bank. But it was a clear night and there was no fog!

Then tonight, driving home through League City, I caught a
glimpse of two more 11 shooting stars". These were moving towards
me and went over the car (disappeared at the top of the windshield).
Just a quick flash and they were gone. But it was cloudy and rain-
ing. Could have been a tiny sncw-flake oaught for an instant in the
headlights before rept the car, but still I'm begin-
ning to wonder.
Seriously, if you know anyone who collects information
on "UFO""sightings", and would be interested in this type of infor-
