Contact was made with FAA Rapcon WPAFB, Ohio (ext 7oO42). Shortly
after noon they were informed of a large balloon at approximately
The balloon was suppose to cover a 7 acre area when on the ground.
The balloon was visually sightéd by the Patterson tower.
Contact was made with Holloman Balloon Control Center, H Holloman
AFB, New Mexico, ext 442l with Col Clemenson. Col Clemenson said
that t there were no balloon launches from Holloman to account for the
sighting.
Contect was made with Vandalia Airport control tower. Tower personnel
had watch the balloon visually for several minutes. They said they
did not know what or who was tracking the balloon with the Cessna
aircraft.
The station's height finder nly goes up to in the neighborhood
of l00,000 fert and the balloon was higher ther i.s. They did not
track the balloon.
Contect was made with Incorp. Minneapolis Minn. Mr.
said that his company has not been launching balloons for the past
couple of months. He had not heard of the balloon but suggested
that possibly Goodfell AFB, Texas might hate launched a balloon.

to balloon launches. They released a balloon at ll55 EST which

Contact with the Indianapolis Center in regards to observation of an
alleged balloon over the Indianapolis area. 1 The balloon came directly
over the Air Route Traffic Control Center and was seen by many people.
There was a chase plane which was following the balloon all the way
from Arizona. Cne pilot in the areq was stumped by the balloon.
He claimed that the object was only about 2ooo feet in altitude but after
he tock off he could see that the balloon was much higher. Another
private claimed that he got fairly close to the balloon. The contact
at Indianapolis Center said that the balloon did look like a flying -i.v-aiiapoiisos
shaped object very much. He could see how many people could have shaped chject very much. He could see how many people could have
mistaken the balloon for the Ufo.
