CARR UFO Sighting 30 Mar 1966
1. Enclosure (l) pertains to reported sightings of Unidentified Flying
Cbjects (UFO's)made December 1966 b Ensign John H. SCHMITT,
fleet replacement pilot, Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron TEN. The
Field, Lmperial Beach, California.
In substance, enclosure (1) reflects four UFo's wera sighted 60 degrees
above the horizon, travelling generally from an East to West direction.
The Uvo's were bright in color; were observed for approximataly nine
minutes, flickered and disappeared.

2. The information contained in enclosure (l) was forwarded by USNAAS
M11 TAIST
with this theory, which proupted his reporting of the UFo's to NISo-SD.
In substance, report concerning his UFo sightings of 19 and 20
December l966, deseribe the UFo's as brilliant orange in color which
of glowing material from its periphery, then disappearing.
4. advised that he is a senior mechanical engineer and a graduate
of the University of Chicago. He admitted being an avid of the University of Chicago. He admitted being an avid satellite satellite
watcher and, an eight year affiliation with the National Investigation
Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP), 1536 Connecticut Ave., N.W.,

20 December l966 to NICAP. Additionally, he furnished NISO-SD with

previously furnished these reports to NICAP.

and shortly before going on the air to give his news broadcast, had
observed: Uro's in the vicinity of his residence, He described them
as brilliant orange color, flickering dropping flaming material
The newscaster reported he managed to follo one of these objects on
foot and when it came to earth, be discovered it to be a plastic bag,
of the type utilized by dry cleaning establishments to cover clothing.
He found it partially burned and I a candle device slung beneath the plastie
bag, which when lit, gave the plastie bag buoyancy into the air.
COMMENT: The UFo's which were reportedly sighted in the San Diego
petrated by unknown person(s). For record purposes this memorandum
will be. furnished te the nearest air force facility, March Air Focce-
Base.

the night of l6 Dec 1966. The basic format for the following information
Was taken from CCMELEVENINST 3820.1A of 1 Apr 1958.
2. The objects sighted were basically
a pea held at arms length orange in color. The
four objects sighted were ogreat a distance to distinguish any
details; they all appeared right orange balls of light. No sound
was heard and there wer unusual physical features visible during
the éntire pericd of observation.
3. The objects were firs t noticed becaus e of their brightness and
unusual flight path across the sky. Three of the four objects were first

each other as they moved rom the East in a westerly direction. The fourth
object remained apert the other three, travelling initially in
a northwesterly directi finally turning due west. All of the objects
periodically stopped ar held their positions
