Bright Meteor Flashes
Over Pennsylvania, Ohio
PITTSBURGH (UPI)-A
meteor so b bright t it cast shad-
ows flashing through the sky
over western Pennsylvania
and Ohio early today, fright- and Ono early today, irgnt-
ening hundreds of persons.

It lit up the area like a

bus, Ohio, also reported the
base received numerous calls.
The Allegheny Observatory
said the meteor a appeared in
the sky at 12:55 a.m.
"The tail was visible for
four seconds, and it changed
in color from white to blue to
orange," t the · observatory
said.
Initial reports indicated the
meteor was visible over an
area or more than 150 square
miles. It moved in a north-
westerly direction, from
southeast here in Westmore-
land County to as far west as
Columbus.
Observatory spokesmen
said the said the meteor probably

mosphere. They said they re-
ceived no reports of its strik-
ing the earth. 6
In Ohio, residents in the
cities of Warren, Akron, Can-
ton, Columbus, Jackson and
Marion reported sighting the
bright flash.
