flying ob ject observed by ephis, Tennessee. I
regret the tardineas of this reply; unfortunntely, a discrepancy in the
address and my absence from liemphis for : veral days delay receipt of
your letter.
The eatablished procedure for handling UFo reports is to rofer then to the

tising slogans or meseages. Howaver, the diapley to be legible must be
viewed when almost direetly overhaad. So far as I hava been able to
deteraine, this is a newly designed piace of equipment and the only one in
operation at this time.
Viewed from the angle at which you observed it I believe it could have
presented tha sppearance you deseribod. I base this assumotion on the faet
that the first aight it opersted in Mernphis the control tower alone received
over 5o telephone calle. The descriptiona receivad were not in as good
detall as gours dut did doseribe sinilar appenrances depandent on the angle
from which it was observed. .

frosted light panel, causing this light to "blink". . The rotor

is possible that there was some noise associated with it that we
