Gentlemen:
Recent sightings of unidentified flying objects in
Miohigan has reminded me of my intention to advise vour
an unusual object seen by me.
About ten minutes after ten o'olock, A.M., Hawaiian time,
on January l6th, l966, I happaned to be looking at sky over
the Waikiki beach area. The sky was blue, with fair weather
cunulus clouds coverin about So, or the sky, cloud height
was about 5ooo feet. Wind Whs from the NNE at about l6 mtles
per hour. I saw an object whioh could be described as being
siuiler to 8 child's oalloon, pen Mte in color, if this
balloon were flying atabo ut eoo feet of altituie. It was
distinetly ciroular in plan form, whether it was spherieal
in form or an ellinsoid I do not knov--I only saw the cireu-
lar plan form. I first noticed the objeot when it was cbout
85 degrees esautdenn

It definitely was not a palloon, nor a bird, nor any kind of
conventional aircraft. Nor Wns this spots before my eves".
I am a commercial airplane pilot, I have gcod vision,
And I have flown nany times in jets and other sircraft at
heights to 40,o00 feet. I have never seen sn obiect like
this, before or since. I bave no explanation for it. I had
never but'muobdctook in thegerUro.reaorte but I Inow thst-I
saw sometiing whichlwas urusual and hss no ordinary explana-

bocnuse it wes going nt a high rete of epeed against the
surface Wind. Ir it were an airoreft it ves of elreular pian

noise or contrnils. It could not have been the "snot" of
a searchlight, because it wns brond dayiight and Mis ierinitely
