The following information as outlined in Paragraph 15 ; AFR 200-2 is
submitted for your information,

ae Description of the Object(s):
(1) -Shape described as appearing like a star.

(2) Size was compared to star by stating it was too large
and too bright.

(3) Color was indicated as being bright white and twinkly
with some red noticeable.

(4) Two objects were seen at different times.

(5S) No formation flight noticed. Two objects seen at dif-
ferent times going opposite directions could be same object sighted
twice,

(6) Discernible details noticed were probably speed and
lack of speed compared to airliner.

(7) No tail, trail or exhaust were noticed.
(8) No specific sounds were reported.
(9) Refer to attached letter.

b. Description of Course of Object(s):

twinkle of the object attracted the person.
(2) Angle or elevation not determined.

(3) Disappearance of object was probably over the horizon

was time of sighting.

(2) Night sighting.
e. Location of Observer(s):

Observer was sitting on a park bench at North Avenue beach. North
Avenue is 1600 North on Lake Michigan facing east. Approximate geographic
position should have been 87939" west, 1°58" North, which is the near north-
east side of Chicago on the lake front.

Boy friend was with observer:

g. Weather and Winds:

(1) Observer stated it was a warm night, stars were out; however,
there was probably a scattered cloud condition. Winds must have been calm

k. This particular report was called in to the O'Hare Base Operations |
Office. The young lady seemed cooperative. She felt that someone might |
need to know about the object she had seen. She was asked to write a
report in her own words. This was requested after attempting to get all
the information prescribed in AFR 200-2. It is this officer's opinion |
that the sighting was either a helicopter or aircraft. Approximately |
where the North Avenue beach is located is also point where several air- |
ways are located. The ILS system for Runway 27 at O'Hare would run just
north of the North Avenue beach. Many times airliners will put on landing
lights well out over the lake to distinguish their aircraft because of the |
heavy traffic. Combine the bright landing lights with a revolving Grimes
beacon to explain the touch of red. The landing lights from a distance
appear to twinkle because of their candlepower. Enclosed is original of

report written by the observer.

This is in reply to your report of serial objects which you
could not identity on 25 and 26° duly 1965.

Your signtings pave: been: evaluated aes probable observations -
of satellites. ‘The paths of satellites often appear to be erratic
with changes in speed and direction. This can be caused by an.
illusion as one light passes near snother or by atmospheric
conditions such as haze, smoke, or temperature inversions.

The report from Omard air foree Base on 23 Horch 155T
was attributed to an observation of stars and lights on a nearby
varne , This information wes released by the Air Force to dhe .
Presa. The Pasadena Air Silter Canter had mo connection with
the ooservation.

Ve have no reports from Clovis, New Mexico, on 2 or 3
lovember 1957.

L. This office i Ss receipt of an unidentified flying object
reports from of ue, Chicago,

Tllinois 60618.

2. The analysis section has evaluated the objects which he and

his ?riends observed oa 25 and 28 July 1965 as probable satellite
sixntings. There are more than 30 satellites and satellite compon-
ents visible to the naked eye. Frequently tne path of these objects
appear to be erratic with changes in both speed and direction. This
is caused by an illusion as one light passes near another or by
atmospheric conditions such as haze, smoke or inversions.

3. The report from Oxmard AFB on 23 March 1957 was investigated by
local civilian and military authorities. The multiple objects
Doserred were stars and conventional lights on a nearby barn. This
information was released by the Air Force tothe press. The Pasadena
Air Filter Center hed no connection with the observation.

ri The alleged reports of 2 Nov 57, Clovis, New Mexico and 3 Mov 57
marillo, Texas are not in the Air Force case files.

5. The book, "Flying Saucers, Top Secret”, by Donald E Keyhoe,
mentioned as a source of his information, is regarded as science
fiction by the Air Force.

QQNENTS: MeSMMMMBecuring phone interview 'seemed to be reliable until.

furtner probing found that he had been in the Air Force and seemed to feel he
was an authority on contrails, aircraft shapes, etc. Further probing found
that he observed someone signaling by light in morse code (SOS) to the objedét.
He saw the signals coming from a nearby hospital but could not remember the
floor. It is to be noted that this observation was made on July 5th, a legal
holiday with many fireworks displays throughout the city. Also the Chicago
White Sox were pdaying a night Bame. At most of the night games fireworks are
set off. This reporter feels that cradibility of sighting is debatable because
of the "SOS" report. Mr s asked to submit a written report in his |
own words but has failed to do so to this date. t

k. This particular report was called in to the O'Hare Base Operations
Office. The geogravhical location is approximately six miles due east of
Midway Airport. Surface winds at Midway Airport were out of the southwest.
According to the report, the object was on a course from east to west with
a turn to the northwest. It is conceivable that this could have been an
aircraft landing at Midway Airport with an approach from east to west,
then turning northwest on a down wind leg for a landing on Runway 22.

1. No physical evidence.
