obtain additional reports the sightings: All provided negative
answers.
(a) Denver ARrC. This agency checked their radar and
flight logs for the poriod in question.
(b) Colorado State Patrol.
(c) Local Law Enforcement Agencies in Colorado Springs,
Broadhoor, Manitou Springs, Fort Carson (US Army), Woodland Park,

Centers were contacted. They indicated there was no unusual activity
at the time that might have caused the sightings.

dicate points contac possible
(4) Preliminary analysis of the sightings:
(a) The testimony from all five witnesses leave little
doubt there were objects or some phenomena present. The film may prove
the objests to be some type of aerial vehicles, however, the other
evidencs available tends to evidence available tends to disprove this. A thorough search made to this thorough search made to
see if anyone else had seon these objects brought negative results.
The local GCI site, Denver ARTC and Peterson Approach The local GCI site, Denver ARTC and Peterson Approach C Control all in- trol all in-
dicated negative radar returns for the area during the me in question in question
and the Norad Space Detection and Tracking Center indicated there were

(b) The sightings could have been caused by lonticular
or "cap" type clouds over the mountains or by the rays of the setting
stm reflecting off some other unusual weather phenomena. This is
based on the following:
1. The air was relatively unstable at the time of
the sightings, with many thunderstorns in the area.
2. The objects when sighted were alnost in line
with the setting sun.
3 The sighting appeared "cloudlike" in nature to
some of the withesses.
4, The sightings took place in a very populated area
and the objects were not roported by anyone else which tends to sub-
stantiate the theory the objects were only visible from on angle closely stantiate the theory the objects were only visible from on angle closely

objects.
(5) Existonce of wsical evidonce: Mr.
one of the witnesses, ind: photographed objects with an SMM
movie camera. He volunte this fiim for evaluation. The film has :
not been developed as the developing process i: tented by a commercial
concern and local military and civilian photog agencies could not
develon it. The witness' camera Was a Keystone An ericana movie camera
with a 25iM F-l:3 telephoto lens. The camera was cquipped with an auto-
matie light meter and lens adjustment, therefore, no shutter Speed and
lens opening data is available. He used no filters or tripod. He did
use the "panning" technique. The camera was pointed between 262 - 272

Dear Mr.
Reference Io made to the UFo report which
you submitted to the Air Force.
The film you submitted was viewed several
times by I photo analysts and photo processing
personnel. They were unable to define any objects
or inages whlch resembled those deseribed in your
report.
The film consisted mainly of baclyard famlly
sequences, After the Camlly Sequenees, the film
consloted of olose-up seenes with sun shining
through the hair of an individual standing in front
through the format an yiolble An
individual frame-by-frame analysis did not reveal any
identifiable Imagery beyond a blurred streak. The
path of this image curves as it crosses the format. The
fact that the small image is blurred whlle the trans-
mission lines are in sharp focus Indloates that the
image-causing object close to the camera rather than
at a significa on the camere. This state-
ment is based 1ra eported distance to the objeets
being photographed I and the assumotlon that
the camera is set infinity, These conditions would
limit the disbance from the camera to the objeet to 14
meters ir the lens opening P:l.8. Beyond 14 meters

1. PurPosE: This report answers work order number 6h-l03 submitted by Major H. Quintanilla,
TDEW. The work request contained a reel of 8 MM film purported to contain images of uniden-
tified flylng objects.
2. ANALYsIs: Foreign Technology Division photo analysts and photo processing personnel
viewed the subject film several times. I They were unable to define any objects or images
which resembled those desoribed in the letter submitted with the film.
did not reveal any identifiable imagery beyond a blurred streak. The path of this image
curves as it crosses the format. The fact that the small image is blurred while the trans-
mission lines are in sharp focus indicates that the image causing object is close to the
camera rather than at a significant distance from the camera. I This statement is based on
the reported distance to the objects being photographed as 5-2o NM and the assumption that
the camera is set on infinity. These conditions would linit the distance from the camera
to the object to ll, meters if the lens opening is F:l.8. Beyond ll meters objects will be
anything beyond this distance is in focus. I Therefore, the e image causing object is probably
within lh meters of the camera.
