Mater witnesses stated on several oeeusions that they vould not
have renenbered their intorest in the iigbts if they hud not Geen
the article in the Clearwater Sun. They felt it vao their duty to
conply with the Air Force's request for infomation. It can be
aosumed on the basis of this fact that the Clearwater obeervers
Wore on the whole In the class of reliable wi ineases. Slnce it Lc
only this type of w tness who report valid information, case studies
a of this nature are valuable in acertaining how tho appearance of the
phonomena agrees with the knowm appearance. The pilot's statement
provided the necessary control.
The formation of the lights wes the most accurately reported
wrinfluenced fact with 71% , specifying a straight line, There was
a high accuracy in reporting the color of the red lights, but
this was influenced by the newspaper article. It is highly sigmifi-
cant that only three persons saw all three of the colors that were
present and only tweive obeervers saw both red and white lights. Of present and OnLY letveis  sa w both red aid wnite lgits. Or
