I, EURPOSE
To identify the sample and its origin.
II, FACTUAL DATA
1, Tho sample was assigned Physics Laboratory serial number 10023,
2, The sample was photographed to show its dimensions,
3. The sample was examined

@, For radioactivity using a scintillation counter, No radioactivity
other than normal background was detected,

b, By omission spectrochemical methods, The composition of the three
different phases were identical, Emission spectrochemical analysis
rovided these data: Estimated concentrations in weight percent.

(1) Silicon 20% (7) Caletun 1%
(2) Aluminua 10% (3) Potassium 0.1%
{3) Sodium Lh (9) Manganese 0.1%
{4) Iron 3% (10) Nickel 0.05%
(5) Magnesium 2% (11) Chromium 0.01%
(6) Titanium 1%

c, ZeRay Spectrochemical Methods,

x~ray diffraction patterns were identical for samples taken
from the core and from the outside layer, The major constituent
in both cases was crystalline 5105,

6, Chomical Methods,
A chemical test for carbonates was nagabivs.

A sample was heated slowly to 4100°C with no apparen’ changs
4n weight or dinensions. There was some change in color:

4, The chemical composition of the ganpie is that of a bontenite clay.
The magnesium hag been raplaced to some axbent by sodium, potassium,

end calcium ions.
2, Tha object eould bs formed by 4 sudden application of heas as a Lizhtaing
bolt or an air arc formed by a broken power line, ‘The molten material
sould hava flowed into water, bsen exposed to rain, or in water soaked
soll, The sudden cooling would cause the outside layers to fracture
~1% adhere to the core, ths condition and colorabion of the outer
Rayer are expected when a bentonite clay i3 malted and cooled rapidly.
The object was foened in a atream bed oF 3n sand end gravel from a
stream bed beacause stream worn pebbles are embedded in the outer layer.

3, Tha composition and nature of the object shows beyond doubt thas Ls
could not ba part of a spacs ywahicie or be from outer space.
