While stopped at an interseetion in my car, a sudden white smoke trail While stopped at an interseetion in my car, a sudden white smoke trail appeared appeared
in the sky. I watched it and it appeared to me like a trail from a 2" in the sky. I watched it and it appeared to me like a trail from a 2" rocket.
It burned out quickly. The smoke dissipated in a few seconds. A call to
Base Tower divulged no scheduled firings. Subsequent investigation; revealed
it to be parachute flare fired at an aquatic survival demonstration class.

I saw a bright white smoke trail in the sky. It started suddenly and made a
straight path across y for approximately 5 seconds and stopped. This
trail dissipated roximately l5 seconds. No sound was heard, no aircraft
visible. It apoear cket in flight as I have seen and fired
many aerial rockets. I reported th e sighting to the Plattsburgh AFB tower and
asked if they had any reported rocket firings. They y answered negative. Sub-
sequently I was phoned request by "Blue Bottle" control to submit a
written report on th Sighting report nformation follows:
1. Shape: Not visible.

INVESTICATIONFINDINGS: The Base ( Ground Training Seetion was conducting
class in Aouatic instructional demonstration,
fired a white perachute flare over Lake Champlain from the area of the Airmans
Beach. This flare rose to a height of approximately l2oo' to 1500'. It burns
with bright white flame and leaves a white smoke. Burning time is of short
duration. Spiraling motion of smoke due to swinging of flare ebelow parachute.
