Texas, 16 May 1960

1. This installation has received a report of a sighting of an

Unidentified Flying Object at Dallas, Texas, on 16 May 1960
between the hours of 2050 and 2100C.

2. In compliance with AFR 200-2, the following information is
submitted.

a. Description of the Object:

(1) Shape - Diamond.

(2) Size - Compared to J3 Cub Aircraft at altitude of approxi-
mately 6,000 to 8, 000 feet.

(3) Color - Glowing red, outlined with approximately 20 to
25 round lights.

(4) Number ~- One.
(5) Formation - Not applicable. ?
(6) Any discernible features or details - None.

(7) Tail, Trail, or exhaust, including size - None.
(8) Sound - None.

(9) Other pertinent or unusual features - Speed approximated
at 3 or 4 times speed of jet trainer.

b. Description of Course of Object:

(1) What first called the attention of observer to the object?
Speed, color and shape of object.

(2) Angle or elevation and azimuth of object when first
observed - Directly south of the observer..

(3) Angle or elevation and azimuth of object upon disappearance
- Approximately 40 degrees east.

(4) Description of flight.path and maneuvers of object - Flight
path in straight line, no maneuvers.

(5) How did the object disappear? - Disappeared behind trees
which line back yard.

(6) How long was the object visible - 4 to 5 seconds.

Boulevard, Dallas, Texas, former Agent for the Federal Bureau
of Investigation, advised that Poe reliability was good.

g. Weather and Winds - Clear, bright, unlimited visibility,
winds 12 knots at ground level (Furnished by Meteorologist in Charge,
United States Weather Bureau, Love Field, Dallas, Texas). Report

from United States Weather Bureau, Carter Field, Fort Worth, Texas,
of wind direction and velocity:

6, 000 ft 210 degrees at 23 knots
10, 000 ft 200 degrees at 29 knots
16, 000 ft 250 degrees at 17 knots
20, 000 ft 260 degrees at 18 knots
30, 000 ft 260 degrees at 30 knots
50, 000 ft 260 degrees at 35 knots
60, 000 ft 250 degrees at 9 knots

(no reading was taken at elevation of 80, 000 ft)

Ceiling - unlimited, Visibility - 15 miles, Amount of cloud cover -
None, Thunderstorms in area: None at time of sighting (Thunderstorms
and lightning reported at 1955 hours Northwest of Dallas, Texas area,

no distance given. Temperature - 83 degrees at 1955 hours, 81 degrees
at 2055 hours.

h. Any other unusual activity which might account for the sighting -
None.

i. Interception or Identification Action Taken - None.

j. The QQQMMM® residence is directly in the flight pattern of Love
Field. Reports of heavy air traffic at other times; however, no air-

craft were in the vicinity at time of sighting.

k. Position Title - Base Commander. Based on the facts
and information indicated above, it is the opinion of the prepar-

ing officer that the observer, QQMRRRRBMMB® apparently observed
some meteorological or astronomical condition.

1. Existence of physical evidence such as materials and
photographs: None. The Commander, 745th AC&W Squadron,
Duncanville, Texas, was interviewed pertaining to subject
Sighting and stated that his unit had not had any reports of this
sighting, nor had any radar interceptions been made during the
date and time that the sighting of the unidentified flying object
is alleged to have transpired. The Control Tower Operator, Love
Field, Dallas, Texas, advised that on the evening of 16 May 1960,
at approximately 2100 hours, an individual contacted him by tele-
phone and related that he had observed an object ''flying about"' in
the sky. He related that he immediately looked for such an object
but could see nothing except the Eastern Star (a bright constellation
which is visible in this area). The Control Tower Operator stated
that he did not enter this incident on the control log because he
could see nothing, nor did he obtain the name of the individual who

reported sighting the object. S@0MMMMMm was questioned concerning

this reporting and denied reporting the sighting to the Control Tower
at Love Field.
