DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
WASHINGTON

OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY 4 February 1959

—

Tie Air Porce appreciates your interest and effort in report-
ing your sighting. Citizens such as you have assisted to a very
large degree the cataloguing by the Air Force of the many
unidentified flying objects sighted over the past eleven and a
half years. To assist the Air Force with the cataloguing of your
sighting, please complete the inclosed questionnaire and forward

it directly to:

Commander

Air Technical Intelligence Center
Attn: APCIN~4E)

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio

It is understandable that sometimes during the stress of
excitement we might experience some detail campletely out of
proportion, but when given subsequent consideration, under calm
circumstances, we may see this detail in its true perspective.
You reported in yor letter that the object was approximately the
size of a half dollar; if this is true, then at four miles the
object is closer to 1000 feet in diameter than the 50 or & you
estimated. Further, if your original estimate of size is correct
and this object regressed from you in 6 seconds until it was the
size of a pin head, it would have covered closer to 60 miles in
the minute, than the 7 miles estimated in your letter. It will be
very helpful during analysis of this sighting if you would
elaborate on this information when you complete the questionnaire.

Sincerely ? /
