Very white bright sphere w/lights like
portholes w/short reddish tail like a
rocket observed im-ship to come out
of clouds fm :Gdgr true & disappear
into ciouds at 100dgr true after
flight of 9-7 seconds. No sound, Stea

' Report of flying object seen over the Atlantic Ocean
én the 18th October 1958 the Dutch nv. Coolsingel
was under way from Norfolm (Va) to Bremen (@erm),under command of Captain
D.L.Ingelse.
On the First Watch the undersigned,J.van Tiel,jr.2nd Offi-
cer,was Officer on Duty.Also on the bridge was the lookout,a Spanish sailor,
Jedel Rio Fiera.
| At 23.20 ship's time (00.40 G.M.T.on 19/10),the estimeted
|}position being 46 degr 7 min North,19_ degr 25 min West, steering 71 true,
ithe lookout and I saw the following He object: -
I:A very bright,absolutely white light,giving the impression of
a equally lightea sfere>
II:A lighted connection,looked like a row of lighted portholes,
IIIT:As point I,only slightly brighter.
IV :Areddish, short trail,as from a rocketo
Outside this there was no trace:of any navigating lights
iplanes have.Also no sound was heard.
The object came out of a cloud,bearing about 40 true and
\aisapeeared,after crossing nearly across the ship,disappeared in or above
‘another cloud »bearing about 100 true,as this cloud reached to the horizon,
ithe object was not seen againel warned the Captain at once.
7 The object gave the impression of beingquite large,under
‘powered flight,and held a steady course of about 200 true,with tremendous
‘speed.We saw it for about 5 to 7 seconds.
Also we thought it quite low,I would say about 1000 to
»2000 meter.Of course,having no idea how large the objeet was,the appearant
‘size was aboutbetween thumb and forefinger, the height was difficult to SAY e
; As we had not the radar in operation I don't know if it
»could be seen on the screen,

This is to acknowledge and thank you for your letter of
20 October 1956 concerning the unidentified flying object you
saw on 18 October 1958, 46 degrees seven minutes North, 19
degrees twenty-five minutes West, steering 71 truce
The object you sighted has all the characteristics of 4
meteor. An Air Technical Intelligence Center astronomer checked
your report and concurs with this finding.
