type of occurence, makes it highly improbable that this was a natural phenomenon.
Weather conditions at the time add to the improbability.

Aircraft, Balloons, Airships, etc.. Description of flaming or burning round object
rules out t balloon. Object seen from Washington, D. C. to Pittsburgh at approximately
the same time indicates a speed much greater than any of todays aircraft.
Other: No information concerning an errant missile.
The light which was seen on the ground near Washington, D. C. was definitely
determined to be a floodliaht on a barn.
Evaluation of Source Reliability The number and consistency of reports of this inci-
dent indicate the information to be both relatively accurate and reliable. Twelve
different persons from Washington, D. C. to Pittsburgh, Pa. sighted this object.

Analysis and Conclusions:
In view of all the data in this case, the logical conclusion is that all wit-
nesses sighted a meteor which unusually deep penetration into our atmosphere.
The still unoffioiel report sburgh indicates possible the item
on the ground, but as yet discovered.

On 30 September 8 interviewed Tower oporator who described
the object as giving of white light, and traveling at t a height of about 30oo feet
W.S.W. He stated a piec med to drop away from the object which was traveling at a
high rate of speed after which the light vanished. He stated at the time the sky was
clear and there was the vicinity. It was his opinion that the
object was a meteorite.
On 30 September 1958 interviewed an employee the Harris-
burg Yards who o stated at O530 on 29 Sept 58 he saw a lighted object traveling in the

divided again with two lights leading the other two. They did not

An Air Force team has completed their investigation and has
forwarded all the facts concerning this sighting to the Air
Technical Intelligence Center for analysis and evaluation. Prelimi-
nary results indicate the object was a meteorite which broke up in
the earth's lower atmosphere.

the same time indicates a speed much greater than any of todays aircraft.

Evaluation of Source Reliability The number and consistency of reports of this inci-
dent indicate the informati on to be both relatively accurate and reliable. Twelve

Analysis and Conclusions:
In view of all the data in this case, the logical conclusion is that all wit-
nesses sighted a meteor which made an unusually deep penetration into our atmosphere.
The still unofficial report fr Pittsburgh indicates possible remains of the item
on the ground, but as yet st on the groun but as yet still undiscovered. discovered.
This object was seen at Washington, D. C. and Pittsburgh at approximately the
