"Monster" Theory Discarded in
UFO Landing Case Witnessed
An on-the-spot NICAP investigation of the Galt, Ontario "monster" story, which was
publicized on August 3, 1957, has produced no absolute evidence thar any three-roed
creature was involved, as first hinted. But rhough this suggestion is generally rejected,
evidence indicating that some unknown machine landed or briefly touched down near
Galt has nor been discredited.
The stary first made heedlines when 15-year-old Jack Stephens reported having seen
a round dome-topped object four miles southwest of Gal on July 30. Accarding to his
signed NiCAP report, the brightly glowing UFO hovered almost on the ground for about
45 minutes. Then, after ascending vertically, It leveled out and disappeared at a speed
exceeding that of a jet. exceeding that of a jet. S
When the UFO descended it made a throbbing sound, Stephens said. The lower part
was aluminum colored; the upper part brighter, like chromium. In an interview with
Roy Francis of the Galt EVENING REPORTER, Stephens said the domed top did not
ratate, but the main body did revolve at high speed. As the machine hovered near the
ground, he said, he could reddish flame benearh it. When the rotating section
slowed down, its glow resalve several small iighted areas, which he called portholes,
around the lower rim. (ir has uggested that these could have been [er exhausts.)
After the UFO took off, Stephens said, cousing the three-toed effeat, the rest of
he was too frightened to tall anyone for the indentations being caused by sliding
two days. When the area was examined by of the landing gear.
Francis and ather investigators, they found This suggestion, forwarded by NiCAP's
