Platillos Voladores?

EXTRANO OBJETO =IZO EXPLOSION SOBRE EL CEMENTERIO DE ARANUA

Pasto, 6.
cobraron hoy gran actualidad.
chadas ocho violentas y ensordecedoras explosiones. -

ere "T - -

SPOT TRANSLATION
From the newspaper "EL Intermedio" on July 7, 1956 - - -

Flying Saucers?
Strange object made an explosion over the Cemetary of Aranda. A man who works
in the cemetery, whose name is Luna, brought pieces of metal which he picked up
after a number of explosions. He said the object was like a blue cloud and so

bright that he had to protect his eyes. The pieces which he found were handed

over to the SIC.

l. Following information is offered in reply to vasic communi-
cation: : ape 2

& Arande is a small village near Fasto in Southwest Colombia,
3 davs drivine and approximstely 2 hours flying time fron Uoxota, with
no commercial aviation scheduled. As the undersigned is not assigned
an aircraft and the only officer assigned this office, it was impossible
to make a personal visit to Aranda.

be SIC is the adbreviation of the name of the ‘iational Colom=
bian Security Police. Interview with the officers of SIC in Sogoté in-
dicates no information is available to the Colombian Covernnent concern-
ing UFO sightings or meteoric fragments in the Aranda=Pasto area.
Practice light artillery firing was accomplished by the Colombian Army |
Calvary Group stationed at Pasto in the vicinity of Pasto and Aranda for
several days around 6 July.

Ce it is believed that fragments mentioned in basic conmuni-~
cation may possibly be fragments of 4Omm or 20mm tracer used in the
practice firing. It is known from versonal experience in viewing demon-
strations in mid-July in Bogotd that 40mm tracer ammunition was fired
directly over homes in Bogoté into a hillside without any consideration |
for civilian safety in case of short rounds. |

d. Unable to locate Sr. eed at the address
given, SIC has been requested to continue to inform this office of
any further information on the subject. Several articles have ap-

peared recently in Colombian newspapers jesting at observers' reports
of articles seen in the sky as figments of imagination.
