It was logical assumo that t.he sighting was caused by wither
of the following:
(1) The beams of two power searchlights illuninating one cloud
layer, and reflecting on another, thus giving the
impression of four beans.
(2) The deams of four power within
reasonable proxinity of each cther.
3.  possibility existed that there was a slight error in the ccuRcr's
estimate of azimuth of onjects i rolative to true Notth. The invostigator, at
the time of the intorviow. nctod that the SctrcE was sorewhat vague as to the

A phone call was put through to Mr.n , who checked his files, and
informed the investigator that only single s searchlights were in operation
on that particular evening, and these rere all widely seattored throughous
the city. Before hanging up, Mr. . n, remombered that an associete of
his, ir. I l, operated a battery of four searchlights quite
frequently at the Palinades Aousoment Park, Palisades Vark, New dersey, An
appointment was made to see ir, rl made a statxnt (cee Inol is)
which oubstantiated the investigators theory, certirying that his four
searchlighte were in operation at the time of tho UroB sighting. lie also

AIss to conduet a follour-up invostigation of a OB sighting in Rego Park, New York
(CMOR F HJBL O843)at 3l/O23Od JUL 55. SOUNCE had imnediately notiried tho Now York
Dadly News who referred him to the Commander, 223Oth ARFC, Brooklyn Navy Yard, New
York. The Commander, 223Oth AkFc forwarded the initial report through normal
ailitary channels.

objoots moved in s group moving east to west, and the other, nest
to cast. Thsy changed directions ever ry twenty (20) soconds. Tho total tine of
sighting was approxdimatoly thirty (3o) minutes. The sightings were also oboerved
by the wifo, and the landlady of the SOuRce. The landlady was not available at
the time of the interviow, and tho wife was of little assistance, taking the role
of a "yes-man" for all of her husbands' statements. sCurce was of the o inicn
that the four (4) spherical objeets were soarchlight beams but could not positively
identify them as such because there were no viaible shafts of light supporting identify them as such because there were no viaible shafts of light supporting
tham. The probability of the faot that the sightings were beans of light was
substantiated by a statement from Mr. Wane al, Socretary-Treaaurer of the
Palisades Amuaement Park Company, Palisades Park, New Jersey (See Incl #5).

Statement of
SIAIEMENI
All four of my sixty inch power cearchlights wore operating on the
evening of the 3oth of July, between sunset ani midnight. They are
operated on separate electrical rotor u units of varying speeds, thus
making posoible an infinite num:er of combinations of various patterns.
It is not uncomnon for these beams or lights to be visible for several
miles.
