Mrs. Catherine Shupe, of 1226 South Paca street, said she saw the strange
mass of wispy matter drifting slowly down at cout 1l:30 AM.
*Sort of Steaming'
She said it was about 3 feet in diameter, and it looked 'like a big ball
of soap suds smoking like dry ice.
It fell on the ground across from the Seaboard Iron and Steel Corporation,
and in floating to the earth it brushed a car cwned by Martin Steffey, a Seaboard
Part of it Comobi and lef't a yellowish stain.
Mrs. Shupe said a crowd collected, and children poked the bubbles with
pencils. Tha bubbles kept on steaming, and a man took one of ths pencils that
had touched the bubble and rubbed it on his hand. He said he felt no pain.

been asked by Civil Defense au

Captain Wallace scraped the residue off the car and took it to the
police crime laboratory for examination He said the substance was not
radioactive.

sighting area. One object, floating at approximately tree-top level, continued
on, directly across SOUTH PACA STRkET and disappeared from view. The other,
the sticks wers withdrawn, no residue was evident. Another unidentified
bystander stuck a pencil withdres peneil, and on his hand--
no effect.
While the peopls watched, the object slowly disintegrated. Then it was
about two (2) fset in diameter someone threw an autcmobile tirs over it. The
tire sank into the object, and when there was no more trace of the ever-
disappearing object, there were no traces on the tire -- the tire was clean.

this is that none want uncomplimentary publicity about their own campany
manufaeturing or using a substance which sone people may believe to be a
"flying saucer". None of the civi. seened alarned about the
incident.

Neither he, nor that the objeat was a gob of this froth-
ing material, but he suggests that the analysts look for either oxalic acid,
sodium, or sulfate first in trying to determine the make-up of the material.
This may be a lead or starting point in analysis.
