With reference to paragraph his letter,
I think he should be told that the Air Force, and
particularly ATIC has the responsibility for ixokit
investigation of UFO and we have no desies to interet
others, who are not qualified nor responsible, in
making a latent investigation. Especially since a
solution must have been arrived at locally in the
Alaskan Command, and ATIC was not even advised.
Looks to me like he is trying to get into something
he knows little about.

1. For the benefit of the Air Force space research progrem I would like to
obtain the release of information concerning an investigation of on "unidantified
flying object" in Aluska conducted during the winter of Gither l954 or 1955, It
is possible thet valuable information mlght be obtained by eithar a suitabls
Usar teem or some interested univeraity tean if this requested information were
mude available. Although the investigation led to a "solved" cuse, very little
information of the sighting was made public.
2. As a menber of the Soo4th Air Intelligencs Sorviee Souadron, Alaskan Air
Command, I investigated the case outlined balow. As a navigator, amateur
astronomer, electronios engineer and nuclear instrumentation technician, I
have recently come the conclusion that a number of questior remained
unanswered in ths investigation. Sinee the "object" was assumed to be a
meteorite, no further interest wes taken following conclusion by the Air Force
of the investigution. Now, however, information to be gained from examination
of the object or the inpect area might be of great interest to the Air Force
in its present search for knowledge of space thru examination of free-falling
3. The object burned so brilliantly that it was seen thru a dense and wide-
that it was seen thru elouds and snow and overcast, in early daylight co acitions,
over distances of several hundred miles, for 15 minutes after impact. Since
and since even the largest previously known mateorites (such as the great
during passage thru the atmosphere and upon impact, to start a forest fire but
immediately lose their own hent after the impact, this particular "meteorite"
has some rather startling and unexplained churacteristics. It burned with the
brilliance of a hydrogen bomb and for about the same length of time as the first
hydrogen bomb exploded by this country. ,And for the first 36 hours of the in-
vestigation, the Alaskan lir Conmmand was convinded that an enemy hydrogen ex-
plosion had taken place far to the west.
4 Reports came into Alaskan Air Co n ani oarly one morning from widely sc ttered
GOG posts and frcm school children and teachars at Bethel and other such points.

south and a little west. The pilct had estimated the object disappeared thru
the undercast from I to l0 miles ahead and evidently burned time after
striking the ground somewhere off to the right. From their position at the time,
however, compared with the impact point establishad by triangulation, the object
was more than loo miles shead of the aireraft when it crossed its path. The
impset area of the object was found to be an area about 30 les long by 15 miles
wide in a very desolate, uninhabited region. No greater accuracy was possible
with t the sperse information available. No person is known to have gone to the
area to determine exactly the impact location.
the orbit resembles orbits of some of the Russian satellites of l957 and later,
is it possible the Russians even in 1954 or 1955 had attempted such a launching?
present Air Force planning?
if Air Force is
uninterested in further search or examination -- I request armission to write
an article for magazine publication on this sighting, in ope of interesting
others who might wish to investigate the area. Your permissic on is dependent,
of course, on national interest, but I would appreciate response to this
inquiry
