AN RUMARKABLE iORMEGIAN MOAR-LANDING CASE OF ‘195k, LOW -PUSTISHE gyrth a Pemer St
| j= SEA

In the ifarch, 1957 issue of SIR! magazine (thanks to Theodore i/. Hill of “ood

bury, NJ. for sending it to us/\Lortvezian newspaperman Oddvar Larsen tells of an
Voie pay eld Sighting, which ne believes to be authentic. (Incidentally, publica-

ion in a magazine like SIR! might raise a i ered of whether the whole thing is
a piece of fiction; fortunately, we can attest to the bona fices of Oddvar Larsen. )
Larsen writes directly in English: the article is not @ translation.

*

The date was November 23, 195L--a time just after the creat landing wave in
France, when notadle sightings were being made in many viaces, amons them Italy and
Brazil. The witnesses were three little girls, ‘inne and Tora Storedal and Tora Hoy
Haugo, of Torpo, in the Hallingdal district; Anne was ten years old, the other two
vere nine, and all were frightened out of their wits. ‘s they vere coming home
from school near some woods, a black object descended rapidly from the sicy, knocked
snow from the tree tons, and stonned only a few feet above the girls' heads. They
save the following weird description of it: “It looked like a stone...like a ball
...-about ten feet across; the oie nart was black, but trimmed with yellow spots
which could hav2 been made of glass, and there were also a number of small, red
jags." The upper nart was transparent--the trees could be seen through it--and a
human or at any rate semi-human nilot was visible inside, operating controis of
some sort. oJressed in black, this man or entity had "big eyes, covered by a pair
of immense, red glasses", with which he looked straight at the girls. The craft
then rose again with a droning sound, brushing a high-tension line and striking a
shower of sparks from it; an odor compared by Tora tioy to "fried sausages" (ozone?)
filled the air; and the little girls ran for their lives.

When Larsen first heard of this story, he was naturally skeptical; but after
hearing tape recordinss of an on-the-snot investigation of the case, he was con-
vinceda that neither hoax nor helicopter could account for it. He cites, for exam-
ple, this detail given by Tora Storedal:

When the stone came down toward me it had a long, white tail behind, but when
the stone turned and moved away, the tail wernt first. That was funny, I thought."

4

In the snow, there was founc and rhotorraph hed a disturbed track 25 yards long,
esumabdly made by the craft after the girls had turnec thcir backs on it.

The esearch Section is cof course not in 2 position to endorse this case, but
arsen's writing gives a favorable impression of his food sense, and the evidence
S he reports it appears food.

A striling parallel is apnarent between the Tormo case and the Hemmingford,
Cuebec landing of August 23, 195. kere too a deh ioat craft was renorted, with
‘nen" (seven feet tall) dressed in black, with "big round eyes’ (unfortunately, no
further detail is available.) The Hemmingford case's claim to acceptance likerise

‘ests principally on the good ei ssion of honesty and sanity given by the wit-
nesses (irs. Coupal and sons) in a taped interview, for which the saucer world is
miebted to investigator Dr. i.G.Uittmar of iu Sable Forks, i!.¥. (Dr. Dittmar,
director of Tane Recorded ‘0 Information Service, nenepetnly offers to cony tapes
from his collection for those who send a spool of blank tape with directions about

speed, ete. Although he does this gratis, you ought to scnd a couple of dollars
to revav him for his time.)
