by Major Ceneral Ue. S. “arine Corps, Notired,
22 July 1954 at Coronado, California.
advised that, while standinz in front of his home on Cloriatia
Soulevard at exactly O31 hours on this morning, he had heard the sound
of an objset which apreared to be proceeding slightly southwest at a
speed which he estimated to be three to four uimes the speed of a Jet.
Senera LWA stated that ha could maks no estimation of the altitude,
nor deseribe the object making the sound, as ie id not see it as
originally reported, but had heard ita sound only, Ue said that the
sound apveared to be above the overcast, which he eatimated to be at
1500 ?aet with 700 feet scattered, and visibility six niles, Ceneral
further stated that he considered the sound he heard important
enough to report, as during his 25 years in Marine aviation, be had
become acquainted with the sound of Jets, rockets, and artillery shells,
and that the sound he had heard did not seem to be any of these and
appeared to come from an od travelling as fast or faster then an
artillery shell. General said that immediately uren hearing the
sound he went into his house, checked the time by telenvhone, and then
reported the matter telephonically to the Duty Officer at the Naval Air
Station,

csived, and no action was taken as a result of this report by this

his home on this date, he had heard the sound of an object in the
overcast wnich indicated that it was p in a southwesterly
direction at an extreme rate of speed, said that during his 26
years in Marine aviation, he had heard nothing comparable to this, and
thexverore felt the matter should be reported,
