1. On & June 135:, at 0256 hours, an explosion of fragmentation
cluster bombs occurrsd in an sarthen revetment in a restricted ammunition
arsa in Red River Arsenal, Texarkana, Texas. Two blasts in rapid succession,
with sparks ascending approximately 150 feet, left a larse hole in th
ground and scattered containers and unexploded fragmentation bombs in th
Vicinity. Debris, scattered over the surrounding area ror a distance of
500 yards, started several small firss in nearby wooded arsas. No one was
in the araa at the tims or the explosion, excspt the driver or a patrol car,

making nis rounds. Ifa wes at a distance of £50 yards from the explosion
but oeither he nor ths yvenicle suffered damaze.

who is reported by tre Military Intelligence Officer, Red River Arsenal, to
be reliable, saw a circular object which appeared to him to be about the size
of a wash tub ard about 5,000 to 10,000 feet altitude but moving downward,
traveling at a rapid rate of speed from the northeast, over his house, and
on toward the southwest and the Red River Arsenal. The object was a bright
golden yellow, had no tail such as a comet would hays, and made a peculiar

sion of a revetment in Area D, Red River Arsenal, consisting of
fragmentation clustar bombs which occurred at 2:36 A.u., 3 June 195k.
The explosion consisted of two blasts in succession, with sparks
ascending approximately 150 feet. The explosion lsft a large hole
in the ground, anc soattered cans and fragmentation bamhbs w/f in the
vicinity of D4 igloo. Debris was scattered over Area D and a portion
of Area E, Ammunition storage division.

cellar and put them to bed and Stayed with them. Ons was two ysars old
and was going to slesp. Then I went back to the house and stopped at the

houses and pe ths lightning flash. All of 2 sudden i noticed a light
low behind the clo. ihining through the cloud and saw it was not a star,

No, it was strictly a tiackout behind it. It also had a noise and the two
canets I saw fall had no noise except for the explosion after they had
fallen.

As nearly as I can guess, it was higher in the northeast and was lowering.

Ae I mentioned it to the an wno rides with me. ir. iihite. He spoke of heare
ing the explosion ana it jarred his house, but he thought it was lightning
that had strucke He ms sleeping. I told him about seeing the light.
I believe he saic his wifa had noticed a light just befors the explosion.
I also mentioned it to lir. Harmon, supervisor in buildins 82. He said the
explosion rocked his house, He lives in East Hooks Courts, and hs thought
tne war had begun. iis has been in the services. And to a disvatcher who
ives about & miles ¢rem here. He said it shook his residence. He thought
it was lightning.
Qe A When did you know of the explosion on the Arsenal?
Aes. Definitely, I did not know until I turned in my insurence papers this
morning, other than hearing * rumor of a small explosion and knew something had
blown UD.
