Capt , Master, reports as foll ows: On the after-
noon of August 29, 1953, at 18o0 G. M. T., at anchor off Portimao,
Portugal, in lat. 37°06' N., lon. 8°31.6' W., a period of abnormal
refraction was observed. The ship appeared to be almost com-
pletely lan tlocked with a high building observed bearing 161
although the nearest land in that direction was Morocco, over
