Flylag Oojects Reporting (Short Title: PLYO3RPT), the following report of an
unidentified flying object is submitted:
Oa 10 January 19535, between 1545 hours and 1600 hours, Pst (25452 uad 24002),
Coloael Pine erent (Reb) and Lir. Tete of the Federal Security
\j;¢acy, San Francisco, California, obsarved an unidentified flying object while
ei cat (8) alles northwest of Sonoma, California, from a knoll in the hills north-
wost of the Sonoma Valloye. The objoot was sighted at a 45° angle northwest fron
tae locaSion of che cbservers at a very high altitude, so high that the object

ostiuated at four times the speed of a jot alrocraft with accompanying sound clallur
to the USay 7-386 jet asS high altitude, . here was no changes in sound tone or
ae F yoepe maneuvers. Unusual maneuvers made by the object were; (1) - Three
) Ss Sight turns to the right, taking 2 to 5 secunds to complete each turn;
) - Ta (2) right angle (90°) turns, first to the right, then to the left; (5)
The ebjeet slowed dowa to alnost a complete stop, then accelerated to high
speed again, making this maneuver twice, the object shen rose vertically and
disaopedred from view, Total tins of observation was osSimaSed to be between 50
aad 75 seconds. There wars no radar contacts with this cbject. No other obser=
vasions of this objeot are known to have been made,

of the observers. Distance of object from observers was undetermined, rlyiaz

I. Deseriptton of Incident
At 23),5 3 two civilian sources observed one small flying object moving at a
groat rate of speed and performing violent maneuvers. The object's sound was
similar to that of a jot aircraft. The object made three 360° right turns in
nine seconds then performed abrupt 90° turns first to the right, then to the left.
The object than stopped, accelerated to its former speed, rose vertically and
disappoared.
ITI. Discussion of Incidont
The only known aerial object capable of appearing to go through the described
maneuvers would be a balloon; however, the timo factors and velocity ostimates
do not support this conclusion,
