At approximately noon 30 Dec 52 a wing commander in the RAF sighted an unidenti-
fied object to the E at an estimated altitude of 2000', angle of elevation 7 1/2°.
The object was observed to move very slowly in a goneral N direction for about

a minute, during which time it traveled through an ostimated angular distance of
&°,. It thon doparted at "a great speed", This latter movement was accomplished

in approximately 20 seconds. There were two other witnesses to this sighting,
the wife of the observer and the child.

this office by the RAAF Director of Intellizence, Group Capt pain Alexander, 24 Feb 53,
It is believed that the interrogation of Viing Commander Tomkins, wnich was

personally conducted ty Group 9» la, Was as comprehensive as Dossible,
therefors, no additional interrogation or investization was mace ly this office.
No elestrical report was made due to elapsed time involved prior to' the receinot

9. Wing Commander TONMAIN has teen a memter of the R.A.A.S. since 1935, Ha is a
technical officer and well acquainted with aircraft and equipment both past and present.

10, Though Wing Commander TONKTTS is reluctant to agree, the Directorate of Air Forca
Intelligence is of the opinion that the object was a lares meteor at considerable
distance,
