4 The undersigned was on a tour of duty as Officer of the Tay, Brookley Air

1

/ Force Base, Alabamm, from 0830, 28 August 1952 to 0830, 29 August 1952.

At approximately 2130, 28 August 1952, I received a telephone call from
e Mr. QQ Living in Chickesaw, Alabama, I alerted the Air Provwst
Marshal end the control tower operators, who in turn alerted the G.C.A. operators
at Brookley Air Force Base.

I then proceeded to the tower to see if I could observe any objects in the
erea advised by Mr. @HENB, arriving in the tower at approximtely 2150.

I was advised while in the tower, that the 0.5.1. agents were alerted to

check the accuracy of the report. |

The tower operator asked me to check an object he had observed with the |
binoculars in the tower. This tims was epproximtely 21500. Looking with both
the naked eye and through the glasses, the object annesred slightly lerger than
@ planet or bright star. This wes at an approximtely 280° angle and at @ degree
of elevation of 10° to 20° from the ground, This object remined stationary
for approximately 2) minutes. I was called out and advised the tower operators
to contime observation.

The G.C.A. advised the tower that they had a small distinct white blip in
edge of the ground return at a distance of four (4) miles on a bearing of 28°
from Brookley while I was observing the object. This blip wes apvroximetely the
Same relative bearing end distance as estimated by the undersigned.

STATEMENT OF CAPTAIN WILLIAM EB, EDWARDS, AO 838 751 (Continued)

The illumination varied and changed from blueish green to a red, nearly
the color of exhaust flames and glowing red of exhaust stacks as noted by
persons familiar with aircraft flying at night.

My first impression was an aircraft aporoaching, however, G.C.A. could
not observe any aircraft within its scope or any mvsmnent.

At the time of observation there was some cloud cover and the undersigned
could not observe the Bates Field beacon which is anoproximtely 11 miles distant.

to stay out there all nicht as a trailor suard radar operetor. Sometime

4st nine the tower celled and esked me to scan to the North and ona
360 degree anzle. I turned on the radar locotor of the AN/IPH-1 set to
the North, There was nothing out there on the scope, I called the tower
back and asked them what it was ell ebout. They said to go ahead to siand
watch on the 360 degree ansle, that the Officer of the Day was up there,
and to report enything at 211 that I sew on the scope. A Little bit
later I noticed e& return, not of too definite a shape, at about four (4)
miles on @ bearing of 280 desrees. It did not move. ‘hen I called the
tover én told them of this, they told me to continue watching it, which
I did, I watched it «bout half an hour, The rest of the team (GCA Tean)
come out and we turned the new set, en iN/CPN-4, on to ses if we could
see anything. Nothing was visible above or through the cround clutter
on the new set. As far as we could ses, it did not move ond did not

get ony more definite. None of us are very familiar with the An/cry—4+

wR,

At 2130 on the nicht of 28 Jusust 1952, my wife went to the back door
to letch the screen. She c»llei me and I went over to the door. In the
South about sixty (60) derrees avove the sround I sew the oxject. ‘here
were clouds but clesr atmosphere, ‘The object was « fire envine red, "nd
twin.cled to a cryst=1 blue as in a cut dismond., I didn't count them 211
but thers were different ones. ‘'’e were watching the brightest ones
motion. It would we2ve back ond forth anti taxe a couple of hops and
dimmed and flickered out. It was wuch lerger than a brisnt star or plunet.
We calculated it as between seven ani ten miles away, almost directly over
Broo::ley Field, if it were 4 plane you would bear -ome noise, but this
Aid not make any noise, Iater two smaller ones 2pveared almost togetner
in the south southwest. Then we saw enother leree one, It was crystal
blue and red ani would mile out slowly then appear real brisht. ie
watched this in a southwest direction that appeared just over 2 house iop,
It real graduzlly and slowly disa»pesred, It was just as red as coulda be
but it didn't have 2 constant motion, It would stay on red ond then on
sort of a bronze blue. It was within five minutes after the first one
we hud seen, After the second one disappeared I called the field and
talked with the Of leer of the Dey and eave directions andi distance from
here. Then I went to bed and had been in bed only 4 minute when a car
drove up to the front vorch, It wes Mr. @immmmefrom the field. It was
then sbout 2150, ie went to the back porch and saw another of the bright
objects. It was not as brizht as the first two and =ppeared low over the
house tops. Mr, MMM saw it before I pointed it out to him. I+ was
standing still for a wnile then moved slowly to the right then disaopeared,
Tne one Mr, Robinson saw wee in the West. ‘The first two that we saw
were near little bleck clouds ani stood out real driczht. gh ( dn.
MMMM) made @ statement trat it looked like it was shining through the
clouds, ‘Ne saw objectsaain after Mr, QM left that looked almost
like a comet or @ star. I didn't tie that in with the other things
vpecause of its flashing ena it looked like an explosion. I went back on
the porch and asain saw these flashes then it just ault pretty soon,

I thought when I first saw them they were stars or pvlenets, then I
re®lized that stars didn't do like that. I iave seen them off and on.
The first time was on the evening of 5 July 1952, the cay my wife ani I
moved ‘nto this house. I wes going to call the field before, dui they
would disappear,

STATIMEME OF: Qinaenemen, eee , obilo, Alabana

Last night at approximately 2200 hours, I saw four objects in the
sky ranging from due south to southwest from Chickasaw, Alabama.
Two of these objects did not move yet were slightly larger and brighter
than stars or planets. One of thene objects aypeared in the form of
two blurred lights, one above the other, the top licht being green and
the bottom licht fiery red; these red and green lights flashed on and
off ae if controlled by a neon sign blinker. ‘The fourth object vas
alternately fiery red and blue-green in color and seemed to blink at
reguler intervals, This fourth object remained stationary for about
fifteen minutes and then slowly drifted fifteen or twenty degrees and

become stationary again. I left Chickasaw, Alabera, for Brookley Air
Force Base at approximately 2220 and these objects were «till in the

sky upon my departure from Chicknsaw. 1 estimate the distance from

Chickasaw, Alabema, to the nearest object as eight miles and the farthere

most object au twelve miles, When I arrived at trookley Air Force Base
I attempted to locate these objecte and was unable to locate then,

I heard no noise nor eaw any exhaust from any of the above objects.
From the distance of wy observation of these objects I found it diffi-
cult to obtain further identifying characteristics,

At approximately 2130, 28 August 1952, while riding west on Duvall
Street between Houston Street and Nichigan Avenue, I saw two lighted
odjects. At first they failed to attract too mich of my attention
because they appeared to be perhaps large lishts on tip end of a large
type aircraft. The objects were stationary, as lights do appear on an
aircraft proceeding in same direction 1 was traveling. However, the
lights appeared larger than those ordinarily used on wing tips, For
approximately two minutes I looked steadily at the objects until they
moved in an arc, south and down. ‘Then they disappeared from view. ‘the
appearance was as a light only. I noticed no coloring. ‘They did appear
rather oval with the flat side together, but not close. when the
objects moved they moved simultaneously. I did not see any cxhaust or
hear any noise that could have come from the strange objects.
