installation, on 17 April 1952, at 1505 or 1510 hours, spotted sor
uufamiliar fying objost whilo om a hike alomg the Colorad River,
throes (5) miles south of Yuma Tost Station.
2. This objest appsared to bo flatewhite, with mo shosn, cireular
in uhapa, Flying in a 60 dagros azimuth direstion.

2. Between 1505 and_1510 hours 1STone of the mon, CPL WER, who bas a
degree in solenes and a strong background in moteorology, called attention of
ths group to on objest diractly overhsad. At this time the grovp was sented
on the east side, ani in the shade of a tros, botreen the vanal bar’ and ths
Colorado River, approxirately three (3) milos south of Yuma Test Station on the
Arinona cide of the River. Tho object was seen immediately by tho ontirs
grovp without eny diffloulty in foousing the oyes or loosting it owrhead.
It appeared flatevhits, with no sheon, cireular in sheps, and while on oa regalsy
ccurse of approxinately 60° aginuth, it did not exhibit «a completely sxooth
trajectory. It was accompanied internittautly by en appavont wapor trail,
none-peraistent, thin, end not any longer than one or tro object diameters.
This trail or tail disappoared immediately withia the above dinensions as is
accompanied the objoot.
Se This objoot ms first sighted by the group alnost direstly overhead
at an elovation angle in oxovas of, 60°. Dus to the position of the group is
relation to the ceral bank, the horizon to the oast was obstructed to «
heighth of approxinately six or eight degress clovatione ‘The total tins the

over tho horizon, was vory cloae to, and not more than seven seconds. In

4. The group ms instructed that if euy subsequent sightings are nace
while they ere ocoupied in their atoigned weather cuties, that they should
attempt to teke bearings cu the object from tro or more theotolite Positions
and report their findivgs to th» Unit Commander. In this instance the
apparens motion of the object was co fast that it woulc have been Inpoasidia
to obtain engular readings on its trajectory with the theodolits even with
the goars disengaged oad sighting over the open gunsights--
6. Of the attached list of mon, FFC Gr is a craduate "nginessr with

experioncss and M/SGT >» & University graduate ond was previously rated
a flight onginesr in U.S. Aly Forcee All of the sen ere preasntly training
as woather observers and have had som oxparienoce tracking meteorological
balloons with optical equipment. All of the men comwnted that the object
sighted vas unlike eny saturel object or a phenomena which they had over seen
proviously, and that they did not beliove 1% could bo mistakenly ideatlfica
as a woathor balloon. Ths group was told, peuding further instructions, not
to discuss this sighting. Attached is a list of the ign in this group.
6. On the following cny CPL WB and Pro War reported another
sichting while practicing with a theocolits. ‘the duration of the sighting
wan betveen five and ten vscodts-wit tha oprarent rotien so orratie that they
were urable to obtain a sighting on the course of the objoet with « theodolice.
