In accordance with ADC Letter 200-1, dated 11 April 1951, the following
information is submitted on reported visual sighting of an airborne object
by a Contractor Guard at K-25 Plant, Oakridge, Tennessee.

&e Deascrivotions

(1) Object sighted was square end approximately twenty feet wide,
Color, between a white and greys No markings, protrusions,
ridges, ete. Object looked snooth, but wasn't shiny. itesem=
bled a square piece of canvase

(2) Always kept broadside to observer.
(3) Speed remained constant about same as conventional aircraft.
No sound, smoke or noise was noticede Went with and against

prevailing winds.

Sighted at 0515 EST, 7 December 1951, and was under observation nbout
two minutes total and 30 to },\0 seconds each time object came out of

vabione Speed constant, altitude varied approximating 300 feet from
top of a ridge to cloud level.

Coserver was West of K-25, Gaseous Diffusion Plant, in Tower Uy
which is a part of the security system around the plante location

of object was approximately NNW from observer, distance approximating
one mile and 300 feet from top of ridze.

C» Witness/Observer Datas

Witness and observer was ]ir. Spee 8 Contractor Giard at
K-25 Plant, Cakridge, Tennessee. Employed by the Union Carbon and

Carbide Company as a Guard for seven vears, hir . <a. 2 ars
of age and resides at Knoxville, Tennessee.

Observer was on shift )5 minutes when object was sichted, hyesicnt
is 20/70 and he claims no eye troubles. Cunard Sa is held in
high respect by his superiors and he appears to be honest and cone
ecientiouse The guard is fully aware of the publicity restricticns.

the top of a ridge of snall hills running East end West and that

the air and went to the base of the cloud layer. Tt then started back
down (straight) until it was approximately 300 feet from the ridge
agains The object then started back up et about a 5 degree angle to
the left and went into the cloudse Object came oub of the clouds end
straight down to approximately 300 feet of the ridge azaine It then

started to make a circle rising slowly during this maneuver ond then

went up into the clouds at about a 20 degree anple disappearing com=

pletely into the cloudss lo further sighting of the object was made.
Total time of observations was two minutes.

Physical Evidence:

None

Interception or Identification:

Object was first sighted at 0515 EST hy gg. end no mention
was made that object was airborne when reported. Therefore CCT was
not notified by the Security Section. ‘The security Section thinking

the object was ground forces, sent patrols to investigate. After
not finding anything, the Security Section called Guarda at

1000 EST and then it was found that the object was airborne at all

timese At 1002 EST, GCL was notified and tuo F-'7s were sent over to
the areas However, the object had disappeared and no interception
was madee |
