Washington,
1. On Monday, 10 September 1951, I departed Andrews AFB at 1830
hours in C-4/A 45-918, accompaniea bv Capt. Head-
quarters, Air Resupply & Communications vice, ing as
co-pilot.
2. Flight plan -
plishing 60-2 requirements.
3. During the period weather in the Washington, Baltinore,
Quantico area was ceiling unlimited, visibility 15 plus, with bright
moonlight.
remained in sight for approximately 5 to seconds at what appeared
to be the same altitude at which I was flying, during which period
Capt. and I discussed the object. When last seen the light
was proceeding slightly north of Milleraville and while at first glance
it appeared be on the declining half of a trajectory 1/10 cloud
coverage at an altitude of approximately 3500 feet over Millersville
prevented ermi nation that to the
ground.
5. When first seen, the object as a streak of blue rlame
approximately l00 feet in length with the color of the flame changing
to white at the end. was unable to determine the object preceding
flame since a combination moonlight and the light from
itselr blurred backgrouna targets. The speed the object was
flying was estimated to be about 500 miles and while the mass
of the object could not distinguished i rinitely had mass and
shape.

a
approximately 10 o'clock I would estimate our positicn was 10 miles
northeast of Andrews at 6000' on urse of 230°.
At thia time I noticed sky directly front of
us at approxinately 800o' altitude, 30 O miles southeast of Andrews,
apparently on a course somewhere between 60 and 90° The light grew
in intensity and magnitude seemed to be white-hot. I would
estimate that this apparent exhaust was traveling in excess of 500
milesI per hour The total tima that I observed this light was in
the neighborhood seconds. When the light disappeared nothing
else could be seel nning lights line
of any objeet visible.
I would eetime ther parallal
thing of this nature and it was my impression that it looksd like
the exhaust fram a rocket.
