SUMMARY: (Bouter concise summary of report. Give significance in final one-sentence paragraph. List inclorures af lower left. Begin text of report on AF Form |/2—/%art 11.)

At 2036 hour S 1950, Captain Serenata
and 2d Lieut. » Navigators, 2d rdment Squadron,
22d Bombirdment ‘ling ee ess a te Base, California, were standing outside
the Mt. Palomar Observatory, Los Anyeles, Gilifornia. at an elevation of 6000 feet
observing the movement of the celestial bodies when they saw what appeared to be

a shooting star above the hancle of the Big Dipper, fifteen degrees above the
horizon. |

The object, observed at a great distance, moved at a great rate of speed
from approx imately 310° to 100° horizontally, in two to three minutes, emitting
a loud, swirling, whooshing noise similar to a rocket exhaust. The only part of
the object visible was a bluish-white light which flickered intermittently; the
light appearing to be the size of a star.
